St. George Referees is always looking for new referees, we have a proud history and our future is very bright indeed. A qualified referees coach is provided, and compulsory training is operated. Many social functions also take place throughout the season, giving referees and their families the opportunities to get together. Our next course will be run at the end of this season, so make sure you check back in the near future for details on our next course.

An overview of the NRAS Accreditation Standards

A referees responsibility is to ensure that the laws of rugby league are adhered to at all times throughout the match. Referees must be able to effectively apply the laws of the game, to ensure the match is both enjoyable and safe for all.

The following are STANDARDS set in accordance with the National Development Plan. They attempt to ensure that a referee's development proceeds in stages which are progressive and allow for minimum pressure while maximising the opportunity to develop. Each referee will attempt to move through the stages:

Pre - Level 1 Accreditation i.e. Referee - In - Training

Prior to accreditation at Level 1, the referee - in - training would normally be appointed to either matches at 6 - 12 years (Level 1 Mini/Mod trainee) or to International Laws matched at 13 - 14 years (Level 1 International Laws trainee). If the latter trainee is aged 18+, he/she could be appointed to International Laws matched 13 - 17 years according to his/her ability.

School teacher referees may be appointed to Primary and Secondary school matches while school student - referees may be appointed to any Primary school matches or Secondary school matches at 13 - 14 years, with or without joining a Referees Association. Touch Judges are able to officiate in that capacity in any matches.

Level 1

Once qualified, the referee/match official can be appointed to any matches - except representative matches, according to their Level 1 designation.

Level 2

Referees/Officials with a Level 2 qualification would normally be appointed to any matches at the local district level and junior representative matches.

Level 3

Referees/Officials with Level 3 qualification would normally be appointed to any matches up to and including NRL matches

Level 4

Level 4 accreditation requires a referee/touch judge to have officiated at NRL 1st Grade matches or approved by ARL for appointment to an International (not a test) or a City v Country match

Level 5

Open only to referees/touch judges who have International Test Panel Member's status or have officiated at a NSW v QLD State of Origin match.

Matches in the St George District are played on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. in the International grades (13s - A Grade), the competition is combined with Balmain. The under 21s competition is a combined competition between St. George, Balmain, South Sydney and Cronulla Junior Leagues. it is overlooked by the NSWRL.
